Sunflowers and Stitches is officially one year old! 💫 I thought I'd stop to share a little bit about myself. 💁🏼♀️ I’m Kristyn, I am studying Family and Consumer Science Education at BYUI, and I should graduate soon! Yay! 🎉 I started Sunflowers and Stitches because I needed a creative outlet that would provide a little bit of JOY for me, and inspiration for my followers. 🌻 Why "Sunflowers and Stitches"? It’s simple really. "Stitches" has two meanings for me. One because ever since I was little I was crafting along side my mother, an excellent seamstress. Above all other art forms, sewing and needlework have a special place in my heart. There is something to appreciate about thousands of little stitches together that through patience, create a masterpiece. ✂️ My second reason that stitches are important comes from their representation of imperfection. In one of my darkest moments I was alone in a hospital room. I sat there after an extensive surgery with many new stitches in my side. I felt broken and imperfect. But sometimes that is what we need to humble ourselves and become a better person. The sunflowers also play into this story. 🌼 My mother, in her thoughtfulness and wisdom brought 3 giant sunflowers into that hospital room to bring color to the dull walls. It was a reminder of hope for me. Those simple cheery flowers brought me joy and comfort when I needed it most. 🌻
I hope to provide to you what those sunflowers did for me. I hope it can bring you light and inspiration no matter what is going on in your life. While I recognize that much of what we see on the Internet appears "perfect", let us remember that we all have our own metaphorical "stitches" that keep us from falling apart. ❤️
